15.7.2026 | Recruits who started their service in the Lapland Jaeger Battalion and the Rovaniemi Air Defence Battalion swear the military oath or give the military affirmation in Keminmaa on Saturday, 8 August. The ceremony is held on the Keminmaa School Campus and sports field.

13.2.2026 | In the Gulf of Finland and the Archipelago Sea, there are 18 restricted sea areas which usually also contain a military area. Military areas are surrounded by a 100 metre movement restriction zone. This restriction also applies to anyone moving on the ice in winter.

15.5.2026 | The Finnish Navy’s spring main exercise Narrow Waters 26-1 will be held from 20 to 27 May 2026. Exercise activities will take place in the coastal areas of Southern Finland and in the Gulf of Finland.

Coastal Fleet consists of Headquarters and four squadrons: 4th Mine Countermeasures Squadron, 6th and 7th Surface Warfare Squadrons and 8th Service Support Squadron. Bases are situated in Turku and Kirkkonummi but the battleships operate around all Finnish territorial waters.

5.6.2024 | The Finnish Navy will participate in exercise BALTOPS24 organized in the Baltic Sea from 5 to 20 June with vessels, coastal troops and staff officers on different command echelons. Troops from 17 countries will be involved in the exercise the total strength being some 6600 soldiers. Of these, the number of Finnish soldiers will be 330 at most.

26.10.2023 | A detachment from the United States Marine Corps, Combat Logistics Battalion 6 has arrived in Finland for a time of approximately two months. The detachment will train together with Nyland Brigade from the end of October until the beginning of December. This stay is a continuation of our cooperation last year, when a smaller unit from the same battalion trained together with Nyland Brigade in the autumn.

17.5.2023 | Exercise Atrain 23, led by the Coastal Brigade, will be held 26 May - 2 June 2023. The exercise activities will concentrate on the coast of the Gulf of Finland and the sea areas between the Hanko Peninsula and Hamina.

14.9.2022 | On Wednesday, September 14, 1,303 conscripts will end their conscript service and be transferred to the reserve. Now 84 of the returning are women. The conscription period continues until the end of the year in which the conscript reaches the age of 60.

23.9.2016 | 4 - 6 October 2016 an international Conference on Operational Maritime Law will be held at the Navy Command Finland in Turku as a cooperation between the Finnish Navy and the NATO accredited Centre of Excellence for Operations in Confined and Shallow Waters (COE CSW). Participants are expected to arrive from all over the world.

20.9.2019 | Exercise Northern Coasts 2019 has ended. This multinational exercise strengthened the cooperation amongst the participating navies from the Baltic Sea region. For the Finnish Navy this exercise offered a good opportunity to develop readiness and capabilities as well as to deepen the existing solid FISE-cooperation.

21.10.2019 | Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 1 (SNMCMG1) visits Turku October 25 - 27 2019 due to an exercise with the Finnish Navy. Some of the ships will welcome visitors on Saturday October 26.

27.9.2019 | Finnish Navy and Estonian navy will be exercising together in the yearly exercise Baltic Shield Sep 30 - Oct 4 2019 in the Archipelago Sea. The exercise is conducted by Coastal Fleet.

31.10.2018 | Northern Coasts 2018 has gathered together 4 000 soldiers from 13 countries. Among other things the exercise command takes responsibility of the logistics in order to keep the forces battle ready. In this exercise there is a logistic task group supplementing the organic logistics of the task groups. Logistic task group is formed from units of Coastal Fleet and Coastal Brigade. In addition there are some Swedish detachments in the task group organization.

28.8.2019 | The exercise Northern Coasts 2019 (NOCO19) will be conducted between 2 September and 18 September 2019 in the sea areas of Denmark and Germany. The exercise is the German navy´s international invitation exercise for NATO and EU countries, as well as for NATO partner nations. The exercise is led by Germany.

1.10.2018 | Finnish Navy and Estonian Navy organize Baltic Shield 2018 -exercise together Oct 1 - 11 2018 in the Archipelago Sea and Gulf of Finland.

8.5.2017 | MTH-17 Lyydia is an exercise arranged annually by the Finnish Navy for its naval and coastal units. The exercise will be held in the Gulf of Finland from 22 May to 1 June 2017.

5.9.2018 | Standing Nato Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1) will make an unofficial visit to Turku beginning on 7 September 2018. The ships will be open to visitors on Saturday 8 September.

6.11.2018 | Minister of Defence Jussi Niinistö and the Chief of Defence Jarmo Lindberg inspected Northern Coast 18 exercise in Hanko peninsula area on the 6th of November. Exercise started on the 25th of October and will finish on Thursday the 8th of November and is hosted by the Finnish Navy.
