14.11.2025 | HMS Belos, a Swedish submarine rescue ship, will arrive in Turku for a routine visit on 14-16 November 2025. HMS Belos will berth at the port of Turku. The vessel will not be open to the public.

In war and crisis situations, the Finnish Defence Forces needs an ability to dispose of explosives at the bottom of the sea and on the ground. These technically demanding and lengthy course entities are not ones that can be completed in a minimum of time, so the needed competence should already be available. Hiring high-quality professional units on a permanent basis would, however, take up a big slice out of the defence budget.

2.3.2026 | Offshore patrol craft Tursas will be handed over to the Defence Forces by the Border Guard as part of new Turva-class offshore patrol vessels being introduced into service.

The Finnish Navy committed Katanpää-class mine countermeasures vessels MHC Katanpää and MHC Purunpää to the Nato Response Force’s Follow on Forces pool for 2022. Participating in the NATO Response Force, NRF, enhances the capability and interoperability of the Finnish Navy’s vessels and troops and its readiness to commit units to naval crisis management missions.

14.1.2026 | The Squadron 2020 programme is progressing as planned. Steel cutting for the fourth Pohjanmaa-class multi-role corvette has commenced, and the keel of the third vessel has been laid in accordance with naval tradition at the Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) shipyard. With these milestones, construction of all vessels included in the programme is now underway.

Captain (N) Sauli Rimmanen will assume the duties of Commander of the Coastal Fleet on 1 February 2025. Rimmanen will transfer to the task from Navy Command Finland where he has been serving as Chief of Staff. The change of command ceremony will be held at Pansio Base on 30 January 2025.

22.10.2025 | A detachment from the United States Marine Corps (USMC), Marine Rotational Force - Europe, led by Combat Logistics Battalion 6, are arriving to Finland and will train together with Nyland Brigade until the end of December. The detachment will have a strength of around 350 Marines by the beginning of November and will be stationed in Nyland Brigade.

The autumn’s main exercise Freezing Winds 24, led by the Finnish Navy, will be held in southern Finland and in the Northern Baltic Sea from 18 to 29 November 2024. The Finnish Navy will be exercising with the United States Navy in the Northern Baltic Sea, and with Marines in the areas of Hanko and Upinniemi from 8 - 19 August.

The modernization of four Hamina-class fast-attack missile craft (Hamina, Tornio, Hanko ja Pori) is complete and the vessels are in operational use in the Navy. The fast-attack craft’s mid-life upgrade was carried out during 2018-2023. 17.10.2024 | A detachment from the United States Marine Corps, Marine Rotational Force unit, led by Combat Logistics Battalion 8, has arrived in Finland and will train together with Nyland Brigade until the end of December. The detachment with a strength of 200 Marines will be stationed in Nyland Brigade and it will mainly operate within the Brigade´s training areas.
