The Navy launches several exercises in the northern Baltic Sea and coastal areas

During the exercises that start on Friday 13th May, the troops will train, among other things, protection of maritime traffic, generation of situation picture as well as coastal combat tasks and the use of fire. The training will continue until the end of next week and it will be commanded by Finnish Navy Commander, Rear Admiral Jori Harju.

The Coastal Brigade will conduct a battle group exercise in the Kotka and Hamina region, and during next week, coastal artillery fires and anti-ship missile firings from the Hanko area.

The Nyland Brigade will carry out coastal battle exercises in the area of Syndalen in Hanko, and the Archipelago Sea.  The troops will be carried on NH90 helicopters and vessels. Coastal units and vessels from the Swedish Navy’s 1st Marine Regiment (AMF1) will also participate in the exercises.

The Coastal Fleet will rehearse protection of maritime traffic and interagency cooperation at sea south of the Åland Islands.  As a part of the training, the Border Guard and the Navy will conduct a vessel inspection exercise together. The exercises at sea will also involve PASSEX training with HMS Gävle and HMS Carlskrona of the Swedish Navy and USS Gravely, USS Gunston Hall and USS Kearsarge of the United States Navy. 

The exercise activities will develop readiness and the ability to cooperate with different authorities and partner countries and improve the Defence Forces’ ability to monitor and safeguard Finland’s territorial integrity.
