13.2.2026 | In the Gulf of Finland and the Archipelago Sea, there are 18 restricted sea areas which usually also contain a military area. Military areas are surrounded by a 100 metre movement restriction zone. This restriction also applies to anyone moving on the ice in winter.

5.6.2024 | The Finnish Navy will participate in exercise BALTOPS24 organized in the Baltic Sea from 5 to 20 June with vessels, coastal troops and staff officers on different command echelons. Troops from 17 countries will be involved in the exercise the total strength being some 6600 soldiers. Of these, the number of Finnish soldiers will be 330 at most.

15.5.2019 | The Finnish Navy kicked off its Bold Quest 19.1 activities on Monday 13 May 2019. The Navy-related events of Bold Quest will be executed in the Navy Command and in the Coastal Fleet. In Bold Quest 19.1 the Finnish Navy will be developing and authenticating the interoperability and compatibility of information systems, and train in the use of fires as part of the Finnish Defence Forces’ joint fires and target acquisition process.

2.11.2018 | Defence Forces Chief of Operations, lieutenant general Eero Pyötsiä, inspected coastal troops in the Northern Coasts 18 exercise on Thursday, 01 November. During the course of the inspection he saw action of the German-Finnish harbor protection unit among others. Finnish led exercises are interesting for partner nations as the environment in Finland is quite different from that of Central Europe. Finnish Navy is an expert in the challenging, shallow waters archipelago.

26.4.2016 | Finland's unique coastal areas offer excellent circumstances for exercising naval interoperability during the BALTOPS exercise. The interoperability of ships and coastal units will be put to the test during the BALTOPS16 exercise, which starts in June at the exercise area in Syndalen.

23.9.2016 | 4 - 6 October 2016 an international Conference on Operational Maritime Law will be held at the Navy Command Finland in Turku as a cooperation between the Finnish Navy and the NATO accredited Centre of Excellence for Operations in Confined and Shallow Waters (COE CSW). Participants are expected to arrive from all over the world.
