Finnish Navy hosts NATO:s small scale operational experimentation exercise Dynamic Messenger in Upinniemi from 2nd to 13th March.

Dynamic Messenger is a series of operational experimentation exercises related to the development of NATO's unmanned naval and aerial drones. Within this framework, various system tests have been carried out in different parts of NATO's operating area. The previous similar exercise was held in Upinniemi in June 2025.

In this exercise, unmanned airships will be flown from the area of Upinniemi by a Finnish company Kelluu. Flight operations are carried out at all times of the day, with the aim of testing the systems in the winter weather and lighting conditions of the Baltic Sea.

NATO is accelerating the adoption of innovative technologies to increase its military advantage. Demonstrations with uncrewed surface vehicles (USV) and other platforms in the operational environment advance the integration and scaling of this technology for Allies.
