The Coastal Fleet’s annual winter operations exercise Lumiukko25 is being conducted in the Gulf of Finland and the Archipelago Sea from 27 February until 5 March 2025.

The Finnish Defence Forces will deploy staff officers to the European Union’s Naval Force EUNAVFOR Operation Aspides established in February 2024, and to the US-led Operation Prosperity Guardian launched in December 2023, both of them active in the Red Sea and its adjacent areas. The objective of the operations is to secure free and safe navigation in the Red Sea.

A detachment from the United States Marine Corps, a combination of subordinate units from II Marine Expeditionary Force (II MEF) has arrived in Finland and will train together with Nyland Brigade until the end of August. Coastal Fleet consists of Headquarters and four squadrons: 4th Mine Countermeasures Squadron, 6th and 7th Surface Warfare Squadrons and 8th Service Support Squadron. Bases are situated in Turku and Kirkkonummi but the battleships operate around all Finnish territorial waters.
