28.8.2026 | The Finnish Defence Forces is deepening cooperation with Sweden to strengthen the surveillance and protection of Finland’s territorial integrity. Close cooperation with our NATO ally will strengthen security in the North and NATO’s Eastern flank, also enhancing Finland’s and Sweden’s interoperability in all situations, both in peacetime and during emergencies and disruptions.

18.8.2026 | The Finnish Future Operating Environment Study 2040 (FIN FOE 2040) has been completed.

20.8.2026 | Finnish Army Commander, Lieutenant General Pasi Välimäki, hosted Nordic Army Commanders in Helsinki and Mikkeli, as well as operational planning meeting concerning NATO forces in the Northern Region. During the week, the Finnish Army also hosted the leadership and subject-matter experts of the U.S. Multi-Domain Command – Europe (MDC-E) and the 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command (10AAMDC).

20.8.2026 | Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, General Wiesław Kukuła visited Finland 19-20 August. He was hosted by the Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces, General Janne Jaakkola. Some of the key themes of the visit were the current situation of security environment, capability development and cooperation between Finland and Poland.

1.9.2026 | The Finnish Defence Forces will participate in the Denmark-led Arctic Endurance 26 -exercise complex in the Arctic region in early autumn. The exercise will be participated by service personnel from the Navy and from the Utti Jaeger Regiment.

20.8.2026 | The local defence exercise Lively Stronghold 26 led by the Guard Jaeger Regiment, concentrating in the Uusimaa region, will bring together a training audience of around 550 soldiers from 30 August to 4 September 2026. In addition to the Guard Jaeger Regiment, units from the Coastal Brigade, Naval and Army Academies, authorities and other actors in the area, and the cities of Vantaa and Kerava will take part in the exercise.

22.10.2025 | A detachment from the United States Marine Corps (USMC), Marine Rotational Force - Europe, led by Combat Logistics Battalion 6, are arriving to Finland and will train together with Nyland Brigade until the end of December. The detachment will have a strength of around 350 Marines by the beginning of November and will be stationed in Nyland Brigade.

6.7.2026 | An international naval mines cooperation (NMC) project concerning the common procurement of naval mines has advanced to the framework agreement phase. As a representative of the lead nation, the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command has signed a contract in 25.6. with the Finnish company Forcit, on procuring the Blocker Influence Mine for the participating countries. So far Finland, Germany, Denmark, Lithuania and Norway have joined the project.

17.10.2024 | A detachment from the United States Marine Corps, Marine Rotational Force unit, led by Combat Logistics Battalion 8, has arrived in Finland and will train together with Nyland Brigade until the end of December. The detachment with a strength of 200 Marines will be stationed in Nyland Brigade and it will mainly operate within the Brigade´s training areas.

11.11.2024 | The autumn’s main exercise Freezing Winds 24, led by the Finnish Navy, will be held in southern Finland and in the Northern Baltic Sea from 18 to 29 November 2024. In addition to the Finnish Navy, troops from the Finnish Army and Air Force, the Logistics Command and the Border Guard will participate in the international naval exercise. 26.10.2023 | A detachment from the United States Marine Corps, Combat Logistics Battalion 6 has arrived in Finland for a time of approximately two months. The detachment will train together with Nyland Brigade from the end of October until the beginning of December. This stay is a continuation of our cooperation last year, when a smaller unit from the same battalion trained together with Nyland Brigade in the autumn.

17.5.2023 | Exercise Atrain 23, led by the Coastal Brigade, will be held 26 May - 2 June 2023. The exercise activities will concentrate on the coast of the Gulf of Finland and the sea areas between the Hanko Peninsula and Hamina.

21.5.2026 | The second Pohjanmaa-class multi-role corvette to be built for the Navy has been launched in Rauma. The vessel was moved from the construction hall to the dock basin where the building and outfitting of the vessel will continue. A festive launch ceremony was celebrated in Rauma on 21 May.

2.4.2026 | For several years, the Navy has been developing a comprehensive capability to produce virtual exercises to train soldiers with better skills. This time, the Navy is piloting a procedure exercise for the virtual training environment for trainees to practise situations involving damages on a vessel in a setting that simulates reality.
