30.6.2026 | On Monday 6 July 2026, the conscripts of the summer contingent will report for military service in the Army. 9700 recruits will begin their military service in Army brigade-level units. Karelia Brigade, Pori Brigade and Kainuu Brigade will receive the largest numbers of recruits.

30.6.2026 | The Finnish Ministry of Defence, the Estonian Defence Forces, and the European AI lab for Defence NestAI have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) on 30 June 2026 to advance the development of artificial intelligence capabilities. The LOI does not include financial commitments. Instead, it establishes a framework for knowledge sharing, joint development, training, and technical cooperation.

22.10.2025 | A detachment from the United States Marine Corps (USMC), Marine Rotational Force - Europe, led by Combat Logistics Battalion 6, are arriving to Finland and will train together with Nyland Brigade until the end of December. The detachment will have a strength of around 350 Marines by the beginning of November and will be stationed in Nyland Brigade.

22.4.2026 | Standing NATO Maritime Group 1, (SNMG1), will conduct a scheduled port visit in Turku arriving on 22 Apr 2026, Commanded by Commodore Maryla Ingham, Royal Navy, on the flagship German frigate FGS Sachsen and Portuguese frigate NRP Dom Francisco de Almeida. The vessels will moor at Turku harbor.

2.4.2026 | For several years, the Navy has been developing a comprehensive capability to produce virtual exercises to train soldiers with better skills. This time, the Navy is piloting a procedure exercise for the virtual training environment for trainees to practise situations involving damages on a vessel in a setting that simulates reality.

13.3.2026 | The Baltic Commanders Conference brought together the Commanders of Naval Forces of the Baltic Sea region, as well as Commanders of the NATO's Maritime Command and of the CTF Baltic in Turku 10 – 12 of March 2026.

2.3.2026 | Offshore patrol craft Tursas will be handed over to the Defence Forces by the Border Guard as part of new Turva-class offshore patrol vessels being introduced into service.

26.10.2023 | A detachment from the United States Marine Corps, Combat Logistics Battalion 6 has arrived in Finland for a time of approximately two months. The detachment will train together with Nyland Brigade from the end of October until the beginning of December. This stay is a continuation of our cooperation last year, when a smaller unit from the same battalion trained together with Nyland Brigade in the autumn.

17.5.2023 | Exercise Atrain 23, led by the Coastal Brigade, will be held 26 May - 2 June 2023. The exercise activities will concentrate on the coast of the Gulf of Finland and the sea areas between the Hanko Peninsula and Hamina.

31.5.2024 | The naval mine countermeasures vessel MHC Vahterpää's nine-week period as part of Standing NATO Mine Counter Measures Group 1 will end on 31 May 2024, after which the vessel will return to Finland. 

27.6.2024 | The French amphibious assault ship FS Mistral will arrive in Helsinki for a scheduled port visit from 27 to 30 June 2024.

23.9.2022 | A unit from the United States Marine Corps’ 2nd Marine Logistics Group will be coming to Finland to train with Finnish units. It will be training with the Nyland Brigade from October until early December. Most Marines from the unit will arrive in Finland early next week.

20.9.2019 | Exercise Northern Coasts 2019 has ended. This multinational exercise strengthened the cooperation amongst the participating navies from the Baltic Sea region. For the Finnish Navy this exercise offered a good opportunity to develop readiness and capabilities as well as to deepen the existing solid FISE-cooperation.

8.11.2018 | Multinational Northern Coast 18 exercise conducted by the Finnish Navy ends on Thursday Nov 8th.

11.9.2020 | Coastal Fleet’s Minelayer Uusimaa will take part in the Sea Surveillance Exercise led by the Swedish Navy 14 - 16.9.2020. The exercise takes place in the archipelago off Stockholm and in the Northern Baltic Sea.

21.9.2020 | The Coastal Fleet’s mine countermeasures vessel Vahterpää continues the autumn NRF training period alongside the Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 1 (SNMCMG1) in the Baltic Sea until the 4 October before returning to Finland.

25.8.2020 | Minelayer Uusimaa will participate in the Swedish Navy’s anti-aircraft exercise in the Baltic Sea from 25 to 27 August 2020.
