High readiness unit
Coastal Fleet is a high readiness unit of the Finnish Navy consisting of all the naval combat vessels and auxilliaries.
It maintains high readiness to protect the territorial integrity, securing sea lines of communication and repelling attacks from the sea.
In addition, it contributes to the overall maritime situational awareness and trains the war time units and personnel for the Finnish Navy.
Its keys tasks include mobile protection of the territorial integrity, engagement at sea, mine warfare and maritime combat service support.
As a naval unit it focuses on naval operations at sea. Its area of operation includes the territorial waters of Finland from eastern areas of Gulf of Finland to the northernmost end of the Bay of Bothnia.
