Competent reservists with high performance capability are an important part of the Navy capacity
The naval reserve officer training is a versatile, ascending package of training, in which the various forms of reserve training support each other. The reserve training system consists of the refresher training and voluntary exercises led by the Finnish Defence Forces and the training arranged by the National Defence Training Association of Finland. The system enables flexible and ascending development of individual competence and supports the development of troop capabilities.
The Navy collaborates with the National Defence Training Association's naval district, for example, by using reserve leaders in refresher training and voluntary exercises and by steering the training arranged by the association through goals derived from the operative foundations to support the naval military training and its needs. The training supporting military preparedness arranged by the National Defence Training Association of Finland is an ascending package of training focused on the development of individual skills. It supports the development of troop capabilities and the training path of a reservist.
In addition to competence development, the courses provide an opportunity to earn training days comparable to refresher training that are taken into account when considering reserve promotions. In addition to training supporting military preparedness, the National Defence Training Association of Finland organises such activities as introductory events for those getting prepared for military service, international training activities, and preparedness and security training for all citizens to prepare them to manage better in daily life emergencies and under exceptional circumstances.
