Naval operations

The capability of the Finnish Navy will decrease after 2025 as the Rauma class fast attack missile craft reach the end of their life-span. The Hämenmaa class vessels will reach the end of their life-span even sooner, which will have severe impact on the Navy's mine-laying capacity. The combat vessels cannot be replaced by any other solutions than new combat vessels.

It is not possible to carry out the main tasks of the Navy on land only. Operational readiness and quick reaction times are essential to the Navy's activities, and they take place at sea. To be able to maintain the for Finland essential mine-laying capacity, the Navy vessels operate at sea.

The acquisition of new combat vessels plays a critical part in maintaining the Navy's, and thereby also the FDF's, capability. It will allow the Navy to maintain its maritime defence capability and secure the maritime traffic.
