13.2.2026 | In the Gulf of Finland and the Archipelago Sea, there are 18 restricted sea areas which usually also contain a military area. Military areas are surrounded by a 100 metre movement restriction zone. This restriction also applies to anyone moving on the ice in winter.

15.5.2026 | The Finnish Navy’s spring main exercise Narrow Waters 26-1 will be held from 20 to 27 May 2026. Exercise activities will take place in the coastal areas of Southern Finland and in the Gulf of Finland.

21.5.2026 | The Guard Jaeger Regiment will train with other authorities in Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa on 24–28 May 2026.

Coastal Fleet consists of Headquarters and four squadrons: 4th Mine Countermeasures Squadron, 6th and 7th Surface Warfare Squadrons and 8th Service Support Squadron. Bases are situated in Turku and Kirkkonummi but the battleships operate around all Finnish territorial waters.

5.6.2024 | The Finnish Navy will participate in exercise BALTOPS24 organized in the Baltic Sea from 5 to 20 June with vessels, coastal troops and staff officers on different command echelons. Troops from 17 countries will be involved in the exercise the total strength being some 6600 soldiers. Of these, the number of Finnish soldiers will be 330 at most.

26.10.2023 | A detachment from the United States Marine Corps, Combat Logistics Battalion 6 has arrived in Finland for a time of approximately two months. The detachment will train together with Nyland Brigade from the end of October until the beginning of December. This stay is a continuation of our cooperation last year, when a smaller unit from the same battalion trained together with Nyland Brigade in the autumn.

20.5.2019 | The main exercise of this spring for the Finnish Navy, maritime warfare exercise Silja is to be conducted from 27th May to 7th June. The main areas of exercise include Archipelago Sea, Gulf of Finland, Northern Baltic Sea and the coastal areas of Uusimaa region.

2.6.2019 | Maritime warfare exercise Silja 19, led by the Finnish Navy Command, begins its live exercise phase (LIVEX) 3rd June. At the beginning of LIVEX, the surface vessels of Finnish Navy and a large amount of smallboats of Finnish Swedish Amphibious Task Unit also join the exercise.

29.4.2021 | Finnish Navy conducts a minecountermeasures exercise together with Standing NATO Minecountermeasures Group One (SNMCMG1) in the Archipelago Sea 5 - 6 May 2021. The exercise supports the Finnish Katanpää class vessels' preparations for the next year's NRF period.

2.11.2022 | Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1) is to visit Helsinki 4 – 7 November 2022. Upon leaving from Helsinki SNMG1 is to participate in a joint exercise organized by the Finnish Coastal Fleet.

17.10.2018 | Northern Coasts 18 (NOCO18) led by the Finnish Navy, will take place in Finland from 25 October to 8 November 2018. About 4.000 persons and dozens of surface vessels and aircraft will participate in the exercise.

25.8.2017 | Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 1 (SNMCMG1) will arrive in Turku September 1 for a scheduled port visit as part of the group’s deployment in the Baltic Sea. The group will be hosted by the Finnish 4th Mine Countermeasures Squadron, Coastal Fleet.

11.4.2018 | Vessels from the Finnish Navy will participate in an exercise arranged by the Swedish Navy from 11.4 to 19.4.2018 in the archipelago of Stockholm.

28.9.2017 | The 4th Mine Counter-Measures Squadron of the Coastal Fleet will arrange the exercise Baltic Shield 2017 between 2 October and 6 October 2017. The exercise is a joint exercise for Finnish and Estonian mine counter-measures vessels, which will be held in Finland, in the Archipelago Sea.
