26.5.2026 | Norway has signed the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) Framework Agreement which allows serial procurement of CAVS 6x6 vehicles. The CAVS Framework Agreement has been already signed between Finland, Latvia, Sweden, Germany and Denmark.

21.5.2026 | The second Pohjanmaa-class multi-role corvette to be built for the Navy has been launched in Rauma. The vessel was moved from the construction hall to the dock basin where the building and outfitting of the vessel will continue. A festive launch ceremony was celebrated in Rauma on 21 May.

12.5.2026 | The NATO defence alliance's joint operational doctrine working meeting will be held for the first time in Helsinki from 12 to 14 May 2026. The purpose is to enhance interoperability among NATO member countries by standardising common doctrines and the associated terminology. All 32 NATO member countries, parts of NATO's command organisation, and representatives from NATO's Centres of Excellence have been invited to the event.

18.5.2026 | The northern part of the Ramstein Flag 26 live-fly exercise will take place in Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark from 8 to 19 June 2026.

2.4.2026 | For several years, the Navy has been developing a comprehensive capability to produce virtual exercises to train soldiers with better skills. This time, the Navy is piloting a procedure exercise for the virtual training environment for trainees to practise situations involving damages on a vessel in a setting that simulates reality.

2.3.2026 | Offshore patrol craft Tursas will be handed over to the Defence Forces by the Border Guard as part of new Turva-class offshore patrol vessels being introduced into service.

17.10.2024 | A detachment from the United States Marine Corps, Marine Rotational Force unit, led by Combat Logistics Battalion 8, has arrived in Finland and will train together with Nyland Brigade until the end of December. The detachment with a strength of 200 Marines will be stationed in Nyland Brigade and it will mainly operate within the Brigade´s training areas.

26.10.2023 | A detachment from the United States Marine Corps, Combat Logistics Battalion 6 has arrived in Finland for a time of approximately two months. The detachment will train together with Nyland Brigade from the end of October until the beginning of December. This stay is a continuation of our cooperation last year, when a smaller unit from the same battalion trained together with Nyland Brigade in the autumn.

17.11.2023 | The President of the Republic has appointed Commodore Tuomas Tiilikainen as Commander of the Finnish Navy and Brigadier General Vesa Valtonen as Chief of Personnel (J1) of the Defence Command as of 1 January 2024. In addition, Tiilikainen was reappointed to the post of Admiral for the period 1 January 2024–30 June 2027.

16.4.2022 | The Finnish Navy carried out a PASSEX exercise with Danish frigate Esbern Snare in the Baltic Sea from 10 to 16 April 2022. Finland sent the Navy’s fast-attack craft Tornio and Mine Hunter Coastal Vahterpää as well as the Border Guard’s Dornier patrol aircraft to the exercise.

2.7.2021 | On 5 July 2021, approximately 1,800 recruits start their military service in the Finnish Navy, and 120 of those are women. Approximately 1,100 recruits start their service in the Coastal Brigade, and a little over 700 in the Swedish-speaking Nyland Brigade. 

13.4.2021 | Two Hamina-class fast-attack craft of the Finnish Navy will take part in the annual anti-submarine warfare exercise organised by the Swedish Navy 15-20 April 2021 off the east coast of Sweden.

28.10.2021 | Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 is to visit Helsinki and to participate in a joint exercise with the Finnish Coastal Fleet from Saturday 30th October to Tuesday 2nd November 2021.
