6.7.2026 | An international naval mines cooperation (NMC) project concerning the common procurement of naval mines has advanced to the framework agreement phase. As a representative of the lead nation, the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command has signed a contract in 25.6. with the Finnish company Forcit, on procuring the Blocker Influence Mine for the participating countries. So far Finland, Germany, Denmark, Lithuania and Norway have joined the project.

20.4.2026 | The Government Defence Report (VNS 2024) mentions the modernisation of minesweeping capabilities of contact and influence mines, which is set to begin with replacing the ageing Kuha and Kiiski class vessels. The vessels were built in the 1970s and 1980s, and extending their life cycle is no longer cost-effective.

22.7.2026 | Kosovo Force (KFOR) is a UN-mandated multinational NATO-led crisis management operation. Finnish peacekeepers have served in the operation since 1999. KFOR’s mission is to prevent hostilities between different ethnicities. KFOR cooperates with local authorities and other international organisations operating in the area to improve the national organisations and structures in Kosovo.

21.5.2026 | The second Pohjanmaa-class multi-role corvette to be built for the Navy has been launched in Rauma. The vessel was moved from the construction hall to the dock basin where the building and outfitting of the vessel will continue. A festive launch ceremony was celebrated in Rauma on 21 May.

20.7.2026 | Chief of Defence Command Finland, Lieutenant General Vesa Virtanen visited Italy last week. Topics of discussion included defence cooperation between Finland and Italy, crisis management operations and NATO cooperation.

31.10.2018 | Northern Coasts 2018 has gathered together 4 000 soldiers from 13 countries. Among other things the exercise command takes responsibility of the logistics in order to keep the forces battle ready. In this exercise there is a logistic task group supplementing the organic logistics of the task groups. Logistic task group is formed from units of Coastal Fleet and Coastal Brigade. In addition there are some Swedish detachments in the task group organization.

15.5.2026 | The Finnish Navy’s spring main exercise Narrow Waters 26-1 will be held from 20 to 27 May 2026. Exercise activities will take place in the coastal areas of Southern Finland and in the Gulf of Finland.

22.10.2025 | A detachment from the United States Marine Corps (USMC), Marine Rotational Force - Europe, led by Combat Logistics Battalion 6, are arriving to Finland and will train together with Nyland Brigade until the end of December. The detachment will have a strength of around 350 Marines by the beginning of November and will be stationed in Nyland Brigade.
