18.6.2026 | On 18 June 2026, Finnish Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen authorised the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command to purchase GBU-53 Small Diameter Bomb II (SDB II) glide bombs from the United States. Glide bombs will be used in Finnish Air Force F-35A multirole fighters.

15.6.2026 | The Finnish Defence Forces and the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) have signed an implementation Arrangement on information exchange and pre-series procurement concerning the development of Arctic armoured personnel carriers.

21.5.2026 | The second Pohjanmaa-class multi-role corvette to be built for the Navy has been launched in Rauma. The vessel was moved from the construction hall to the dock basin where the building and outfitting of the vessel will continue. A festive launch ceremony was celebrated in Rauma on 21 May.

Coastal Fleet trains conscripts in many demanding tasks, most on the vessels. Service time varies from 165 days to 255 and 365 day.

20.4.2026 | The Government Defence Report (VNS 2024) mentions the modernisation of minesweeping capabilities of contact and influence mines, which is set to begin with replacing the ageing Kuha and Kiiski class vessels. The vessels were built in the 1970s and 1980s, and extending their life cycle is no longer cost-effective.

15.5.2026 | The Finnish Navy’s spring main exercise Narrow Waters 26-1 will be held from 20 to 27 May 2026. Exercise activities will take place in the coastal areas of Southern Finland and in the Gulf of Finland.

18.6.2026 | Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark acted as joint hosts for the northern part of NATO’s Ramstein Flag 26 exercise, which concludes today.

The detachment will have a strength of around 350 Marines by the beginning of November and will be stationed in Nyland Brigade.

17.10.2024 | A detachment from the United States Marine Corps, Marine Rotational Force unit, led by Combat Logistics Battalion 8, has arrived in Finland and will train together with Nyland Brigade until the end of December. The detachment with a strength of 200 Marines will be stationed in Nyland Brigade and it will mainly operate within the Brigade´s training areas.

9.10.2024 | Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC Defence) has started the construction of the second multi-role corvette included in the Squadron 2020 project. Today, the 9th of October, the cutting of the steel structures for the hull of the second vessel of the Squadron started in the presence of invited guests in Rauma.

11.4.2024 | The building of the first multi-purpose corvette included in the Squadron 2020 project has advanced to the keel laying phase. A traditional keel laying ceremony was celebrated at Rauma shipyard on Thursday 11 April 2024.

26.10.2023 | A detachment from the United States Marine Corps, Combat Logistics Battalion 6 has arrived in Finland for a time of approximately two months. The detachment will train together with Nyland Brigade from the end of October until the beginning of December. This stay is a continuation of our cooperation last year, when a smaller unit from the same battalion trained together with Nyland Brigade in the autumn.

23.9.2022 | A unit from the United States Marine Corps’ 2nd Marine Logistics Group will be coming to Finland to train with Finnish units. It will be training with the Nyland Brigade from October until early December. Most Marines from the unit will arrive in Finland early next week.

22.10.2025 | Yhdysvaltojen merijalkaväen (USMC) osasto, Marine Rotational Force – Europe (MRF-E), on 6. taisteluhuoltopataljoonan (Combat Logistics Battalion 6) johdolla saapumassa Suomeen harjoitellakseen joulukuun loppuun asti Uudenmaan prikaatin kanssa. Osastolla on noin 350 merisotilaan vahvuus marraskuun alkuun mennessä, ja se on sijoitettu Uudenmaan prikaatiin.

Avdelningen kommer att ha en styrka på kring 350 marinsoldater i början av november och är stationerad på Nylands brigad.

8.5.2017 | MTH-17 Lyydia is an exercise arranged annually by the Finnish Navy for its naval and coastal units. The exercise will be held in the Gulf of Finland from 22 May to 1 June 2017.

17.10.2024 | Marine Rotational Force unit-yksiköistä koostuva Yhdysvaltain merijalkaväen (United States Marine Corps) osasto, jota johtaa Combat Logistics Battalion 8, on saapunut Suomeen ja harjoittelee Uudenmaan prikaatin kanssa joulukuun loppuun asti. Vajaa 200 henkilön joukko sijoitetaan Uudenmaan prikaatiin Dragsvikiin ja se toimii pääosin prikaatin harjoitusalueilla.
