Exercise Kehä 2/24 aims at getting prepared for facing disturbance situations in Uusimaa
The Guard Jaeger Regiment will lead the Kehä 24 local defence exercise in the Helsinki metropolitan area and the region of Uusimaa from 31 August to 6 September 2024. The exercise will focus on local defence and cooperation with other authorities.
The Kehä 24 local defence exercise will be held in the Helsinki metropolitan area and the region of Uusimaa from 31 August to 6 September 2024. Training will take place in the municipalities of Helsinki, Espoo, Nurmijärvi, Tuusula and Kirkkonummi.
The objective of the exercise is to develop cooperation between authorities in various emergency and disturbance situations to defend Uusimaa and the metropolitan area. In addition to working on cooperation between authorities, the exercise also aims at drilling the local forces’ skills in the region of Uusimaa.
Besides training military national defence, the units will train with other authorities various types of situations related to civil defence, evacuation and rescue operations. The most important single portion of the exercise will be the urban search and rescue exercise to be held in Espoo on Wednesday 4 September.
Along with the Defence Forces, the authorities participating in the exercise include the West Uusimaa Police Department, Helsinki City Rescue Department, Länsi-Uusimaa Rescue Department, City of Helsinki and the Gulf of Finland Coast Guard District.
Units from the Guard Jaeger Regiment, Karelia Brigade, Uusimaa Brigade, Coastal Brigade, 1st Logistics Regiment, the Gulf of Finland Coast Guard District and Naval Academy will take part in the exercise.
The strength of the training troops will be around 500 consisting of conscripts, reservists and regular personnel. The exercise will be led by the Deputy Commander of the Guard Jaeger Regiment, Colonel Vesa Laitonen.
This autumn’s local defence exercise will be the final field training exercise of the rank-and-file military police and reconnaissance conscripts, and conscripts having served in special tasks, who are all mustering out in September.
The training units will be wearing a combat uniform and a fighting load, including an assault rifle. The opposing forces may wear civilian clothing. The regular personnel will be wearing yellow high-visibility vests on top of their combat uniform.
There will be around 150 vehicles involved in the exercise, including armoured vehicles. Blank ammunition will be used in some of the training areas, and they may cause noise in the surrounding area.
