2.3.2026 | Offshore patrol craft Tursas will be handed over to the Defence Forces by the Border Guard as part of new Turva-class offshore patrol vessels being introduced into service.

Exercise Atrain 23, led by the Coastal Brigade, will be held 26 May - 2 June 2023. The exercise activities will concentrate on the coast of the Gulf of Finland and the sea areas between the Hanko Peninsula and Hamina.

The modernization of four Hamina-class fast-attack missile craft (Hamina, Tornio, Hanko ja Pori) is complete and the vessels are in operational use in the Navy. The fast-attack craft’s mid-life upgrade was carried out during 2018-2023. Finnish company Patria has acted as the main contractor of the project, and delivery festivities are celebrated in Turku today 12 December.

In war and crisis situations, the Finnish Defence Forces needs an ability to dispose of explosives at the bottom of the sea and on the ground. These technically demanding and lengthy course entities are not ones that can be completed in a minimum of time, so the needed competence should already be available. Hiring high-quality professional units on a permanent basis would, however, take up a big slice out of the defence budget.

31.5.2024 | The naval mine countermeasures vessel MHC Vahterpää's nine-week period as part of Standing NATO Mine Counter Measures Group 1 will end on 31 May 2024, after which the vessel will return to Finland.

6.10.2020 | The six-week NRF training period of the Katanpää-class mine countermeasures vessel Vahterpää alongside the Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 1 (SNMCMG1) is coming to an end, and the vessel will return to Finland on 6 October 2020.

28.9.2017 | The 4th Mine Counter-Measures Squadron of the Coastal Fleet will arrange the exercise Baltic Shield 2017 between 2 October and 6 October 2017. The exercise is a joint exercise for Finnish and Estonian mine counter-measures vessels, which will be held in Finland, in the Archipelago Sea.

25.8.2017 | Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 1 (SNMCMG1) will arrive in Turku September 1 for a scheduled port visit as part of the group’s deployment in the Baltic Sea. The group will be hosted by the Finnish 4th Mine Countermeasures Squadron, Coastal Fleet.
