4.5.2026 | Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command (FDFLOGCOM) has joined the Coalition for Resilient Procurement and Unified Support (CORPUS) with the defense procurement agencies of seven European nations.

5.5.2026 | Commander of the Finnish Army, Lieutenant General Pasi Välimäki, reviewed the Armoured Brigade-led mechanised forces exercise in Pohjankangas, Finland on 28 – 30 April 2026.

20.4.2026 | The Finnish Defence Forces will shortly hold refresher exercises for consenting reservists. The objective is to prepare to assist in the Finnish Defence Forces’ tasks relating to surveillance and securing of territorial integrity.

22.4.2026 | Standing NATO Maritime Group 1, (SNMG1), will conduct a scheduled port visit in Turku arriving on 22 Apr 2026, Commanded by Commodore Maryla Ingham, Royal Navy, on the flagship German frigate FGS Sachsen and Portuguese frigate NRP Dom Francisco de Almeida. The vessels will moor at Turku harbor.

30.4.2026 | The multinational air defence exercise Mallet Strike 1/26 will be conducted at the Lohtaja Firing Range and Training Area from 12 - 21 May 2026.

20.4.2026 | The Government Defence Report (VNS 2024) mentions the modernisation of minesweeping capabilities of contact and influence mines, which is set to begin with replacing the ageing Kuha and Kiiski class vessels. The vessels were built in the 1970s and 1980s, and extending their life cycle is no longer cost-effective.

27.4.2026 | Kainuu Brigade will lead several exercises in Kainuu during May. The exercises will be executed primarily in Vuosanka and its immediate surroundings.

2.4.2026 | For several years, the Navy has been developing a comprehensive capability to produce virtual exercises to train soldiers with better skills. This time, the Navy is piloting a procedure exercise for the virtual training environment for trainees to practise situations involving damages on a vessel in a setting that simulates reality.

29.4.2026 | The Defence Forces has completed the safety investigation (accident investigation) regarding an accident involving an all-terrain truck that took place in Pori Brigade on 16 April 2025 in which a conscript serving in the brigade was seriously injured.

22.4.2026 | The Finnish Defence Forces participated in cyber defence exercise Locked Shields 26 in a joint team with the National Defence Training Association NDTA, Estonia and the United States. Constantly changing cyber threats do not know national borders, so training together and developing the cyber capability is increasingly important.

13.3.2026 | The Baltic Commanders Conference brought together the Commanders of Naval Forces of the Baltic Sea region, as well as Commanders of the NATO's Maritime Command and of the CTF Baltic in Turku 10 – 12 of March 2026.

27.2.2026 | Finnish Navy hosts NATO:s small scale operational experimentation exercise Dynamic Messenger in Upinniemi from 2nd to 13th March.

2.3.2026 | Offshore patrol craft Tursas will be handed over to the Defence Forces by the Border Guard as part of new Turva-class offshore patrol vessels being introduced into service.

6.2.2026 | The Coastal Fleet’s annual winter operations exercise LUMIUKKO26 will be conducted in the Gulf of Finland and the Archipelago Sea from 6 to 12 February 2026. Winter operations are key parts of the Coastal Fleet’s activities.

14.1.2026 | The Squadron 2020 programme is progressing as planned. Steel cutting for the fourth Pohjanmaa-class multi-role corvette has commenced, and the keel of the third vessel has been laid in accordance with naval tradition at the Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) shipyard. With these milestones, construction of all vessels included in the programme is now underway.

A United Stated Marine Corps unit will participate in the NATO-led Baltic Sentry mission, co-operating in Finland for about a month.

Finland is honored to receive an international Ally for a port visit. The United States Navy’s guided-missile cruiser, USS Gettysburg, will berth at Hernesaari Port in Helsinki from 2 to 6 November 2024. The vessel will not be open to the public.

The multipurpose vessel Louhi will participate in a national environmental response exercise from 7 to 11 October 2024 in Lappohja, Hanko.

The Finnish, German, Norwegian and Swedish navies will rehearse anti-surface warfare and air defense off the Swedish south coast from 7 to 18 October 2024.

Finland will receive a French Ally for a scheduled port visit in Helsinki. The French Navy’s light stealth frigate FS Aconit will moor at Hernesaari port on May 9-12 2025. The ship will not be open to the public.
