12.5.2026 | The NATO defence alliance's joint operational doctrine working meeting will be held for the first time in Helsinki from 12 to 14 May 2026. The purpose is to enhance interoperability among NATO member countries by standardising common doctrines and the associated terminology. All 32 NATO member countries, parts of NATO's command organisation, and representatives from NATO's Centres of Excellence have been invited to the event.

22.4.2026 | Standing NATO Maritime Group 1, (SNMG1), will conduct a scheduled port visit in Turku arriving on 22 Apr 2026, Commanded by Commodore Maryla Ingham, Royal Navy, on the flagship German frigate FGS Sachsen and Portuguese frigate NRP Dom Francisco de Almeida. The vessels will moor at Turku harbor.

Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1) will conduct a scheduled port visit in Helsinki arriving on 12 April with its flagship, the Spanish frigate ESPS Almirante Juan de Borbón and the German supply ship FGS Rhoen.

NATO’s Standing Mine Countermeasures Group One (SNMCMG1) has arrived in Helsinki for a scheduled port visit, as part of its continued operations in the Baltic Sea.

The Finnish Navy continues close cooperation with NATO in the Baltic Sentry surveillance operation in the Baltic Sea. PGG Hanko, a Hamina-class fast-attack missile craft, joins SNMG1 (Standing NATO Maritime Group 1) on Monday, 31 March.

A United Stated Marine Corps unit will participate in the NATO-led Baltic Sentry mission, co-operating in Finland for about a month.

Standing NATO Mine Counter Measures Group One (SNMCMG1) will conduct historical ordnance scanning and disposal in the Gulf of Finland, off the coast of Hanko and Porkkalanniemi, from 3 to 14 November 2025.

The Coastal Fleet is the Finnish Defence Forces fleet unit. The Coastal Fleet includes the whole selection of the Finnish Navy’s ships.The Coastal Fleet protects the territorial integrity of the Finnish sea and trains war time units and personnel for the Finnish Navy. Serving in the Coastal Fleet is always worth it. The Coastal Fleet is stationed in Kirkkonummi and Turku.

The autumn’s main exercise Freezing Winds 23 led by the Finnish Navy will be held from 20 November to 1 December 2023. In addition to the Finnish Navy, troops from the Finnish Army and Air Force, the Swedish Navy and several Allies will participate in this international naval exercise. Freezing Winds 23 is the first major naval exercise led by Finland as a member of NATO.

11.5.2026 | Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen has authorised the Defence Forces Logistics Command to procure thermal clip-on optics, related equipment, and spare parts for sniper and designated marksman rifles. The value of the procurement, excluding value-added tax, is approximately EUR 24.5 million.

13.3.2026 | The Baltic Commanders Conference brought together the Commanders of Naval Forces of the Baltic Sea region, as well as Commanders of the NATO's Maritime Command and of the CTF Baltic in Turku 10 – 12 of March 2026.

27.2.2026 | Finnish Navy hosts NATO:s small scale operational experimentation exercise Dynamic Messenger in Upinniemi from 2nd to 13th March.

NATO’s enhanced Vigilance Activity (eVA) in the Baltic Sea is an integral part of the alliance’s collective defence. For the Finnish Navy, the enhanced NATO activity means increased presence at sea, heightened surveillance and exchange of information as well as increasing amount of exercising with the allies.

The Coastal Fleet’s mine countermeasures vessel Vahterpää will attend Exercise Sandy Coast in the North Sea from 18 August to 1 September 2023.

The commander of the United States Sixth Fleet and Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO, Vice Admiral Thomas E. Ishee will visit the Finnish Navy on Monday, 19 June.

Coastal Fleet participates in the international mine countermeasures exercise Dynamic Move 2023 in Belgium from 23 January to 3 February.
