22.4.2026 | Standing NATO Maritime Group 1, (SNMG1), will conduct a scheduled port visit in Turku arriving on 22 Apr 2026, Commanded by Commodore Maryla Ingham, Royal Navy, on the flagship German frigate FGS Sachsen and Portuguese frigate NRP Dom Francisco de Almeida. The vessels will moor at Turku harbor.

30.6.2026 | The Multi-Corps Land Component Command North West (MCLCC-NW) now includes two staff officers from the United Kingdom.

20.4.2026 | The Finnish Navy Command hosted the BALTOPS 2026 planning meeting in Turku 14. – 16.4.2026.

30.6.2026 | On Monday 6 July 2026, the conscripts of the summer contingent will report for military service in the Army. 9700 recruits will begin their military service in Army brigade-level units. Karelia Brigade, Pori Brigade and Kainuu Brigade will receive the largest numbers of recruits.

30.6.2026 | Conscripts of contingent 2/26 start their military service on Monday, 6 July 2026. The brigade-level units of the Defence Forces and the Border Guard will receive about 12 500 new recruits.

13.3.2026 | The Baltic Commanders Conference brought together the Commanders of Naval Forces of the Baltic Sea region, as well as Commanders of the NATO's Maritime Command and of the CTF Baltic in Turku 10 – 12 of March 2026.

6.2.2026 | The Coastal Fleet’s annual winter operations exercise LUMIUKKO26 will be conducted in the Gulf of Finland and the Archipelago Sea from 6 to 12 February 2026. Winter operations are key parts of the Coastal Fleet’s activities.

31.5.2024 | The naval mine countermeasures vessel MHC Vahterpää's nine-week period as part of Standing NATO Mine Counter Measures Group 1 will end on 31 May 2024, after which the vessel will return to Finland. 

22.10.2025 | A detachment from the United States Marine Corps (USMC), Marine Rotational Force - Europe, led by Combat Logistics Battalion 6, are arriving to Finland and will train together with Nyland Brigade until the end of December. The detachment will have a strength of around 350 Marines by the beginning of November and will be stationed in Nyland Brigade.

5.6.2024 | The Finnish Navy will participate in exercise BALTOPS24 organized in the Baltic Sea from 5 to 20 June with vessels, coastal troops and staff officers on different command echelons. Troops from 17 countries will be involved in the exercise the total strength being some 6600 soldiers. Of these, the number of Finnish soldiers will be 330 at most.

9.10.2024 | Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC Defence) has started the construction of the second multi-role corvette included in the Squadron 2020 project. Today, the 9th of October, the cutting of the steel structures for the hull of the second vessel of the Squadron started in the presence of invited guests in Rauma.

22.4.2026 | Natos marina snabbinsatsstyrka, Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1), anlöper Åbo för ett planerat hamnbesök 22.4.2026. Besöket leds av flottiljamiral Maryla Ingham från Brittiska kungliga flottan. I fartygsavdelningen ingår ledningsfartyget, den tyska fregatten FGS Sachsen och den portugisiska fregatten NRP Dom Francisco de Almeida. Fartygen lägger till i Åbo hamn.

9.9.2020 | Two of the Standing NATO Maritime Group One (SNMG1) frigates are to visit Turku from 10 to 14 September.
