14.11.2025 | HMS Belos, a Swedish submarine rescue ship, will arrive in Turku for a routine visit on 14-16 November 2025. HMS Belos will berth at the port of Turku. The vessel will not be open to the public.

In war and crisis situations, the Finnish Defence Forces needs an ability to dispose of explosives at the bottom of the sea and on the ground. 2.3.2026 | Offshore patrol craft Tursas will be handed over to the Defence Forces by the Border Guard as part of new Turva-class offshore patrol vessels being introduced into service.

The Finnish Defence Forces will provide executive assistance to the police in connection with the investigation of cable damage in the Gulf of Finland, including through the Navy´s capabilities such as the MHC Vahterpää, the auxiliary vessel Hylje and divers, other vessels and personnel, as well as compiling the recognized maritime picture and analysis of related data.

In November-December 2022, the Finnish Navy conducted a process to recruit reservists for the EU Battlegroup for 2024. The recruitment process has moved forward, and this week, a test and selection event will be organized for reservists invited based on applications at the Coastal Brigade in Upinniemi. The training will be launched in the summer 2023, and the standby period of the battlegroup will last from January through June 2024.

The autumn’s main exercise Freezing Winds 23 led by the Finnish Navy will be held from 20 November to 1 December 2023. In addition to the Finnish Navy, troops from the Finnish Army and Air Force, the Swedish Navy and several Allies will participate in this international naval exercise. Freezing Winds 23 is the first major naval exercise led by Finland as a member of NATO.

The Finnish Navy committed Katanpää-class mine countermeasures vessels MHC Katanpää and MHC Purunpää to the Nato Response Force’s Follow on Forces pool for 2022. Participating in the NATO Response Force, NRF, enhances the capability and interoperability of the Finnish Navy’s vessels and troops and its readiness to commit units to naval crisis management missions.
