The Finnish Navy continues participation according to plans in the Alliance’s collective defence missions by deploying FNS Pori to join Standing NATO Maritime Group One for a month starting from 1 July 2025.
Participating in NATO’s peacetime collective defence missions is one of the ways in which Finland supports the Alliance’s activities aimed at stabilizing the security environment. Earlier this year, the Navy has deployed a vessel twice to NATO’s Enhanced Vigilance Activity in the Baltic Sea. FNS Pori participated in the activity in January and February 2025, and this acquired know-how will be analysed and leveraged in the upcoming mission.
SNMG1 is under the command of NATO Allied Maritime Command the tasks assigned by which FNS Pori will execute in the standing maritime group in the area of operation of the Baltic Sea.
The participation will enhance the Finnish Navy personnel’s competence in joint operating in the NATO multinational maritime group and demonstrates Finland’s commitment to the Alliance’s peacetime collective defence missions.
The Finnish Navy also prepares deployment of a Katanpää-class mine countermeasures vessel to Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group One for later in 2025.
