The President of the Republic has ordered Brigadier General Jami Virta to serve as Deputy Chief of Staff, Administration at the Defence Command Finland from 1 July 2026.
Virta has served as the commander of the Pori Brigade since 2024. Previously, he has served, among other roles, as Deputy Head of Department and Sector Chief at the Defence Command, as well as Battalion Commander at the Karelian Brigade. He was promoted to Brigadier General on 4 June 2024.
The Chief of Staff, Administration is a new position within the general staff. The Chief of Staff, Administration coordinates the additional duties within the Defence Command that Finland's NATO membership has brought.
