EUTM Somalia

Established in 2010, EUTM Somalia aims to support the development of the Somali security forces by providing training and advice. The overall strength of the Finnish personnel in the operation is 12 persons.

EUTM Somalia supports the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) in the training of Somalian security forces. The mission focuses on advisory work in the Somali Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces' General Headquarters. The objective is to develop the command structures and leadership as well as the structures for training, human resources and administration in a way that Somali defence administration could in the future independently maintain these functions.

Finland participates in the operation with staff, advisory and training personnel tasked to provide training and advice on strategic, operational and tactical levels. Training measures focus on providing leadership training and special fields’ instructor training.

Finland has participated in the operation as since its establishment.
