8.6.2026 | Layered Counter-UAS Initiative, known as LCI-X, is a NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) initiative that enhances the Alliance’s capability to respond to a rapidly evolving UAS threat. A series of LCI-X-related testing events are carried out in Finland in four towns: Riihimäki, Turku, Oulu and Joensuu. The events take place on 1-10 June 2026, and their purpose is to test innovative solutions for detecting and destroying UAS and for the next generation communications and data transfer.

2.4.2026 | For several years, the Navy has been developing a comprehensive capability to produce virtual exercises to train soldiers with better skills. This time, the Navy is piloting a procedure exercise for the virtual training environment for trainees to practise situations involving damages on a vessel in a setting that simulates reality.

20.4.2026 | The Government Defence Report (VNS 2024) mentions the modernisation of minesweeping capabilities of contact and influence mines, which is set to begin with replacing the ageing Kuha and Kiiski class vessels. The vessels were built in the 1970s and 1980s, and extending their life cycle is no longer cost-effective.

17.10.2024 | A detachment from the United States Marine Corps, Marine Rotational Force unit, led by Combat Logistics Battalion 8, has arrived in Finland and will train together with Nyland Brigade until the end of December. The detachment with a strength of 200 Marines will be stationed in Nyland Brigade and it will mainly operate within the Brigade´s training areas.

26.10.2023 | A detachment from the United States Marine Corps, Combat Logistics Battalion 6 has arrived in Finland for a time of approximately two months. The detachment will train together with Nyland Brigade from the end of October until the beginning of December. This stay is a continuation of our cooperation last year, when a smaller unit from the same battalion trained together with Nyland Brigade in the autumn.

5.6.2024 | The Finnish Navy will participate in exercise BALTOPS24 organized in the Baltic Sea from 5 to 20 June with vessels, coastal troops and staff officers on different command echelons. Troops from 17 countries will be involved in the exercise the total strength being some 6600 soldiers. Of these, the number of Finnish soldiers will be 330 at most.

21.9.2020 | The Coastal Fleet’s mine countermeasures vessel Vahterpää continues the autumn NRF training period alongside the Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 1 (SNMCMG1) in the Baltic Sea until the 4 October before returning to Finland.

25.8.2020 | Minelayer Uusimaa will participate in the Swedish Navy’s anti-aircraft exercise in the Baltic Sea from 25 to 27 August 2020.

24.10.2016 | The exercise Meripuolustusharjoitus 2016, MEPU16, is the Finnish Navy's main war exercise and the most important operational exercise in 2016.

22.9.2016 | FNS Uusimaa will participate in the Noble Mariner 16 exercise in October. The exercise is held in Irish and British territorial waters. A great part of the exercise troops will consist of reservists. During the exercise the vessel will undergo a NATO Evaluation Level 2 (NEL2).

25.4.2016 | The cooperation between the Finnish and Swedish naval forces is being developed every year in a joint naval exercise. This year the SWEFINEX will be hosted by the Swedish Navy and it will take place in the waters around Gotland during the period 16–24 May 2016.

18.11.2016 | Finnish Navy's main war exercise in 2016 is now completed. During the two weeks long exercise, the tasks of the Navy were put to the test, and tasks such as leadership, the use of fires and cooperation between the branches, as well as with other authorities were exercised.

26.4.2016 | Finland's unique coastal areas offer excellent circumstances for exercising naval interoperability during the BALTOPS exercise. The interoperability of ships and coastal units will be put to the test during the BALTOPS16 exercise, which starts in June at the exercise area in Syndalen.
