Swedish Army Commander Pays First Official Visit to Finland
The new Commander of the Swedish Army, Major General Johan Pekkari, visited Finland as the guest of the Commander of the Finnish Army, Lieutenant General Pasi Välimäki.
During the visit, the commanders discussed current issues concerning the Finnish and Swedish Armies. Key topics included the Finnish Army's basic structures, bilateral and Alliance operational matters, Army development, the Eastern Flank Deterrence Initiative (EFDI), and Finland's NATO integration. The discussions concluded with the implementation of NATO's Forward Land Forces Finland (FLF FIN).
– We appreciate that, in keeping with tradition, the Commander of the Swedish Army is making Finland his first foreign official visit. Cooperation between the Finnish and Swedish Armies extends back more than 400 years – traditions continue to live on in the present day. We discussed on matters of our current interest, including changes on the battlefield and lessons learned from Ukraine, drones and counter-drone capabilities, NATO's EFDI concept and its implications for Army development, digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI), as well as the implementation of FLF FIN. We agreed that, through systematic training activities in the Nordic region, we are building the threshold for prevention and the capability to repel aggression, thereby strengthening NATO's deterrence and defense. Our cooperation will remain close and productive even as senior leadership changes. Lieutenant General Välimäki emphasized.

We also share a deep and long-standing defense partnership, including joint operational planning.
